Questions Related to Getting Involved
How do I get more involved with my child's education?
As a parent, you are vital to your child's education. We believe that we are
your partner in that endeavor and help create a
safe and caring learning environment. All Lippman parents are members of ParenTeam,
which plays an active role in supporting the school. ParenTeam
sponsors field trips, provides school spirit items, fund-raisers
for special projects and much, much more.

Questions Related to Academics & Enrichment Programs
How do I sign my child up for special academic, extra-curricular & after-care programs?
Each week, the students gain enriching experiences provided by our talented
specialists. In addition, the Shaw JCC offers a wide variety of after school clubs
including karate, computers, chess, dance and more.
The Shaw JCC also provides students with opportunities to join a number of athletic
teams, which compete with other local private schools. Additionally, the Shaw JCC offers an after school
child care program called KidSpace. Activities at KidSpace include: arts, athletics,
community activities, and a homework club as well as an extended day care program.

How much homework should we expect at the end of the day?
Homework provides the opportunity to practice newly acquired skills and
develop independence and learning over time. Our teaching teams work closely
to coordinate homework assignments to stay within appropriate grade level
guidelines. Each grade has a set amount of time dedicated to homework
during the week. Minimal homework is given in Kindergarten as teachers feel
it is appropriate to develop the habit of home study. Homework ranges in
grades one to two from 20 to 40 minutes a night; grades three to five
from 40 to 60 minutes a night; and grades six to eight from 1 to 2 hours a night.
Homework will not be assigned during Jewish holidays that require days off
from school; nor will projects or homework be due at the end of those same Jewish holidays.

Questions Related to Meals, School Hours & Transportation
How do we sign up for school lunches? What is the kashrut policy?
School Lunch Program: Kosher lunches are available throughout the week.
These lunches are pre-purchased on a periodic basis.
The school office will send printed lunch forms home with the students.
Downloadable lunch forms are also availble using the link below.
Beginning January 2006, proceeds for all Lippman lunches benefit the 8th grade Israel trip!
This helps all students, as each Lippman student will have the option of
participating in the Israel trip when they are in 8th Grade.
Bag Lunch: Alternatively, students may bring their
own bagged dairy/vegetarian lunch according to our Kashrut Policy.
Please refer to the Kashrut policy link below for more detail.
Beginning of School Year Notes: During the first week of school, menus go home offering children the option of signing
up for the school lunch program. The school lunch program begins
the first Monday of the first full week of school on August 28th. Therefore, we ask
that every child bring a bagged lunch for the first two days of school Wednesday - Friday,
August 23 - 25.

How will I know if school is cancelled?
In the event that school is cancelled for any reason, parents and students will be
notified by public service radio and television announcements (WKYC, PAX 23, WUAB, WTAM

Questions Related to Medications & Sick Days
What if my child needs medication during school hours?
Medications must be safeguarded in the office. Students are not allowed to keep medications
(over-the-counter or prescription) in their lockers, purses, or pockets. If your child needs to take any medication at school,
a "physician's request for the administration of medication by school personnel" form
must be completed. This form is available in the school office. Students may obtain
their medication from the administration at a pre-designated time.

What do I need to do when my child will be absent due to illness?
1. Notify the office - It is important that you, as a parent, call our office before 9:00 A.M. to be certain
your child's name is on the absence list. Teachers check the absence list to maintain
their class attendance records.
2. Make up work - When absences cannot be prevented, students can make up their work without any penalty. Here are our policies about making up your work: Excused Absences are due to illness, injury, family emergency, team sports competition, field trips, or religious commitments. Students with excused absences are given extra time to make up their missed work in proportion to the length of their absence. It is the responsibility of the student/parent to make arrangements with the school office to get his/her missed work.
3. Returning to school - If a student has been ill, he/she may not return to school until he/she has been fever-free or diarrhea-free for 24 hours prior to the start of the school day.
