The Akron Jewish Community High School was established in the fall of 1976 to meet the Jewish educational needs of Akron teenagers. Popularly called "Hebrew High," the school is administered by the Jewish Community Board of Akron in cooperation with Anshe Sfard, Beth El Congregation, Temple Israel and the Jerome Lippman Jewish Community Day School. All Canton and Akron-area Jewish teenagers are welcome.

The school is structured on two 12-week semesters: the classes are held on Sundays from 4:45-7:25 pm in the Lippman Middle School wing of the Shaw JCC. The curriculum is divided intro three categories: Judaics, Contemporary Jewish Life and Electives. There is also a very strong social component to Hebrew High. Each session contains built-in time for teens to maintain friendships and create new ones. Community building takes place and elective classes offer another opportunity for teens to get to know each other through their creative interests.

Hebrew High offers three programming tracks: Certificate of Participation, Graduation Diploma, and Graduation with Honors.

Jewish Women International is a global community of women working to promote safe homes, healthy relationships and strong women - in every Jewish community around the world. We are leading the growing movement against violence in Jewish homes and relationships with education, advocacy and action based on initiatives that aid the victims of relationship violence and help break the cycle by challenging the Jewish community's thinking on this issue.

Among the JWI initiatives servicing communities right now is The National Library Initiative. JWI has committed to establish 100 libraries in shelters across the country in the next five years. That means putting thousands of books in the hands of children who have fled abusive homes with little more than the clothes on their backs.

Our Youth-focused programming was initiated by our recent weekend retreats for young leaders, "When Push Comes to Shove. It's no longer Love!" Along with our tool kit on healthy relationships, this event has launched exciting new JWI programming that addresses dating abuse and promotes healthy relationships among teens in the Jewish community.

The Mother's Day Flower Project delivers bouquets to battered women's shelters across the US and raises money for JWI's Women's Economic Security Fund. The fund awards non-competitive grants to small innovative programs in the United States, Canada and Israel that give women and girls the resources, skills and education they need to become independent and financially secure.
