The Physical Education program focuses on the development of both fine and gross motor skills customized for their learning styles. Movement is both pleasurable and necessary for day-to-day functioning and fitness. Children are introduced to locomotor, non-locomotor, and manipulative concepts in both individual and cooperative learning environments. The children explore motions that relate to movement, fitness, recreation, spectator sports, and athletic activities that can be used now and in the future.
The environment within the Physical Education program encourages each child:
- to develop an optimal level of physical fitness and skill in movement activities
- to develop basic motor skills
- to develop functional knowledge and understanding of physical education activities both as a participant and as an educated spectator
- to develop desirable social and emotional traits consistent with sportsmanship, cooperation, and teamwork
