The Lippman School recognizes the vital role technology has in our global society and we strive to ready our Middle School students for the challenges that lay before them. One of the exciting steps that The Lippman School has undertaken is to provide each Middle School Student with their own laptop computer to use throughout the school year.
The Library/Media Center is central to Lippman's educational program. Middle School students visit the Media Center for scheduled sessions, where they are introduced to the rich world of technology and our many hi-tech resources. The Information Technology Department supports classroom teachers at all levels to incorporate technology in their lesson plans and assignments.
The primary goal of the Technology program is to strengthen our children's ability to discover knowledge and gain insight. Technology is not simply a tool to be mastered, but it is an experiential mechanism whereby children can engage in their own self-guided discoveries and express themselves in an extended visual dimension. As children master skills in keyboarding, general computer & program use, and Internet browsing, they are also being exposed to the concepts of research and the exploration of learning. Our children thoroughly enjoy finding new creative ways of expressing themselves using multi-media. Our children become focused and engaged as they venture on a self-guided discovery using Internet technology.
The environment within the technology program encourages each child:
- to communicate effectively and creatively using various technologies beginning with word processing and progressing to multi-media production
- to discover information in a self-guided process, accessing, retrieving, evaluating and interpreting information in various content areas through the use of the Internet and state-of-the-art computer software
Middle School children engage in a Technology program that progressively explores the following:
- Appropriate Use of Technology
- Technology Education
- Components and Function
- Maintenance
- Trouble-Shooting
- Internet Safety & Responsibility
- Software & Hardware Skills
- Ethical Practice
- Curricular Integration
